Florian Schiestl studied Biology at the University of Vienna, Austria, where he graduated in evolutionary biology in 1999. Subsequently he worked as a PostDoc at the Australian National University in Canberra and subsequently as a lecturer at the ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Since 2007 he is professor in evolutionary botany at the University of Zürich. He has been working on plant-insect interactions, where he combines plant and animal perspectives to better understand the adaptive value of traits. His primary research topics are floral signal evolution, ecological speciation, and floral mimicry, and his favorite organisms are orchids, bees, and cacti.
